New comedy campaign roasts the symptoms women are told to live with, and points to the hormonal root cause that can be treated
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Midi Health, the fastest growing women’s telehealth company, today released “Hysterical Women: A Menopause Roast,” a comedy campaign that makes women laugh, helps them feel understood when they’re plucking a chin hair for the fourth time that day, and does the work centuries of dismissal left undone: helping women connect the brain fog, rage, sleepless nights, and body changes of perimenopause to a hormonal root cause that can be treated, so they can keep living vibrant lives.
The word “hysterical” comes from the Greek hystera, meaning uterus. For centuries, women’s symptoms have been dismissed as emotional, exaggerated, or all in their heads, and the cost of that dismissal outlasts the insult. When symptoms aren’t taken seriously, women feel shame and never learn where the symptoms come from, or that symptoms can be treated. Today, too many women still assume that sleepless nights, brain fog, and mood changes are simply part of getting older. “Hysterical Women” sets out to change that by flipping the history on its head, using humor to reclaim the word, and giving women the information they were denied.
“Women who spoke up about their health were written off as ‘hysterical’ for centuries, and that dismissal is exactly why so many women still don’t know that what they’re feeling has a hormonal cause and can be treated. Midi Health is proudly taking that word back,” said Melissa Waters, chief marketing officer at Midi Health. “Humor is the ultimate icebreaker for topics society tells us to keep hidden. We want every woman who watches this roast to feel completely seen, to recognize her symptoms for what they are, and to connect with a clinician for the relief and care she deserves.”
Filmed live at Portland’s The Get Down, the showcase feels like a hilarious, long-overdue night out with your funniest friends. The lineup is stacked: Michelle Buteau, creator and star of Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest and the first woman to tape a comedy special at Radio City Music Hall; Jessica Kirson, executive producer of FX’s Hysterical, the documentary on women in stand-up; Jen Kober, two-time NPR Snap Judgment Comedic Performance of the Year winner, Cirque du Soleil headliner, and veteran of The Mandalorian, American Horror Story, and Hacks; and Alyce Chan, creator of @momcomnyc, whom Vogue recognized as one of the funniest parenting voices on Instagram. Together they roast the most absurd parts of peri/menopause and being a woman in her 40s, 50s, and beyond. With zero filter, they tackle the symptoms so often brushed off as “just part of aging,” including itchy nipples, brain fog, random rage, thinning hair, and midnight thermal meltdowns.
“Menopause has been disrespecting women for way too long, so we brought the heat right back to it,” said Michelle Buteau, comedian and star of Survival of the Thickest. “Look, when your body decides to launch its own personal heatwave at 3:00 AM, you have two choices: go crazy or go comedic. We chose to laugh our way to real answers, because every woman deserves expert care without the gaslighting.”
The roast builds on Midi Health’s first-ever national TV advertising campaign which launched earlier this year and brought the conversation about midlife women’s health to a mainstream audience. Together, the two campaigns reflect Midi’s strategy of meeting women where they are and using humor to open the door to real answers and better care.
