New imaging system, used by fewer than 20 practices nationwide, arrives alongside the recent addition of Dermatologist Dr. Susana Ortiz-Urda
SAN FRANCISCO , CA, UNITED STATES, October 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Maas Clinic, a premier provider of plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgical services in San Francisco, in partnership with Quantum Dermatology, announced it is the first medical facility in Northern California to offer the VECTRA® WB360 Whole Body Imaging System. The VECTRA WB360 by Canfield Scientific is a non-invasive, advanced three-dimensional (3D) photography platform designed to detect and monitor skin cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages. Fewer than 20 systems are currently in use across the United States, and the Maas Clinic is one of only two on the West Coast offering it.
The Maas Clinic’s investment in the VECTRA WB360 follows the recent addition of Quantum Dermatology and Susana Ortiz-Urda, MD, PhD, MBA, a board-certified dermatologist and Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco. The new imaging system gives Dr. Ortiz a tool that no other dermatologist in Northern California can currently offer their patients.
About the VECTRA WB360
The VECTRA WB360 captures a patient’s entire skin surface in a single session, using 46 stereo vision pods and cross-polarized lighting tuned specifically for skin imaging to produce a macro-quality, three-dimensional map of the body in seconds. Paired with DermaGraphix software, the system tags individual moles and lesions on that map and tracks them from one visit to the next, highlighting subtle changes that can signal melanoma or another skin cancer well before they would be visible during a traditional visual exam.
Skin cancer is by far the most common cancer in the United States, with about 5.4 million cases of basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma diagnosed each year in roughly 3.3 million people, according to the American Cancer Society. The Skin Cancer Foundation puts the lifetime figure even higher, estimating that one in five Americans will develop some form of skin cancer by age 70.
“Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers we treat, and it’s also one of the most treatable when caught early. Technology that advances early detection in a clinical setting matters enormously to patients and our community,” said Corey Maas, MD, FACS, founder of The Maas Clinic. “Having Quantum Dermatology as a distinct dermatology practice within The Maas Clinic allows us to expand the level of specialized care available to our patients. Bringing the VECTRA WB360 to Quantum Dermatology reflects something we’ve believed from the beginning: keeping our patients healthy has to come before any aesthetic outcome.”
“A traditional total-body skin exam depends heavily on a dermatologist’s memory and photographs taken with a handheld camera, and that approach can miss the kind of gradual change that separates a harmless mole from early melanoma,” said Dr. Ortiz-Urda, MD, PhD., founder of Quantum Dermatology. “The VECTRA WB360 maps every inch of the skin in three dimensions and lets me follow a single lesion across visits with a level of precision no exam room camera has given me before. For patients with a personal or family history of melanoma, or simply a lot of moles to keep watch over, that precision can be the difference between catching something early and missing it until later.”
Patients can now book a VECTRA WB360 scan as part of a routine skin cancer screening or a pre-surgical evaluation ahead of a plastic or reconstructive procedure. Patients interested in a screening can schedule an appointment through The Maas Clinic at www.maasclinic.com. Additionally, patients can receive tax-deductible screenings through the Ortiz-Matulich Melanoma Foundation.
